Blue River Park is regarded as the most spectacular of New Caledonia’s nature reserves. Covering 9,000 hectares, the park is home to a big population of the flightless bird, the Cagou which is the national symbol, a drowned forest, the giant Kaori trees, and the beautiful Blue River. Which New Caledonia tour is best for a cruise ship day?
The FT01 Noumea Highlights tour is purpose built for cruise mornings: pickup near the City Terminal between 8.30am and 9am, return by 3pm, well before evening sailing. If you prefer nature over city, FT07 Blue River Park fits the same window (closed Mondays). History fans should look at FT08 Fort Téremba which includes a sit down lunch at the Banu hat hotel in La Foa.
How far in advance should I book a tour?
Book as soon as your cruise itinerary or travel dates are confirmed. Peak season (July to September school holidays and the October to April cruise season) fills out months ahead. Private tours need the most notice because Fernando or George personally escorts every one.
Are the tours private or shared?
Cruise day tours run as small groups in the eight seat minibus. Private and exclusive tours for just your party are available on request for any itinerary, minimum two passengers. Hotel guest FTE tours are usually private by default.
What happens if my ship is diverted or the weather turns?
If your cruise cannot dock in Noumea you pay nothing and your card details are destroyed. Light rain does not stop a tour. If a cyclone or unsafe weather forces a cancellation, Fernando reschedules free or refunds in full.
